What "torrent to direct download" means

A normal torrent download needs a client like uTorrent, qBittorrent or Transmission running on your computer. It connects to other people in the swarm, downloads pieces from them and uploads pieces back while it runs.

With a torrent to direct download service, a server does all of that for you. When it has the files, you download them from the server over plain HTTPS, the same way you would download a PDF or an installer from any website. That is why it is also called a torrent to direct link or magnet to direct download converter.

How to convert a torrent to a direct download

  1. Copy the magnet link (it starts with magnet:?xt=urn:btih:), or save the .torrent file.
  2. Open Torrent Looker. You can start right away without an account.
  3. Paste the link into the box at the top, or drag the .torrent file onto the page, and press Fetch.
  4. Watch the progress. You'll see the speed, number of peers and time left. You can close the tab; fetching carries on without you.
  5. Press the download button next to any file to save it to your device, or download a whole folder as a zip.

Why use a direct download instead of a torrent client

Works where torrent clients don't

Many office, school and public Wi-Fi networks block torrent traffic. A direct download is ordinary HTTPS traffic to one website, so it works on those networks as long as the site itself is reachable.

Your IP stays out of the swarm

Everyone in a torrent swarm can see the IP address of every other peer. With Torrent Looker, our server is the peer. Your device only talks to torrentlooker.club.

No software, any device

There is nothing to install, so it works the same on Windows, macOS, Linux, Chromebooks, iPhone and Android. See the phone guide for mobile steps.

No upload, no seeding

A torrent client uploads while it downloads, which uses your bandwidth and data allowance. A direct download only downloads.

Resumable downloads

Downloads support HTTP range requests, so if your connection drops, your browser can usually pick up where it left off instead of starting over.

Watch it instead of downloading it

Don't need to keep the file? Open a video or music file in the built-in player and it plays in your browser. You can skip ahead, and subtitles included in the torrent load automatically. Read more about streaming torrents online.

Frequently asked questions

Is torrent to direct download free?

Yes. You can fetch up to 50 GB without an account, or 100 GB with a free account.

Do I need a torrent client like uTorrent or qBittorrent?

No. Our servers do the torrent part. Your device only downloads the finished file over HTTPS, like any other website download.

Can I pause and resume a direct download?

Yes. Downloads support HTTP range requests, so browsers can resume a download that was interrupted.

Can I download a whole torrent folder at once?

Yes. Any folder can be downloaded as a single zip file, with the original folder structure kept.

Can I share the download link with someone else?

No. Download links are private to your account and only work while you are signed in, so nobody else can use your files or your storage.

What am I allowed to download?

Only content you have the right to download, such as Linux distributions, open-source software, public-domain films and Creative Commons media. You're responsible for what you fetch.
